On 6 August 2025, fire crews were called to an outdoor fire at electrical installations in Yealmpton. An inverter was alight and the fire had spread to the field. Crews confirmed that one solar inverter was involved and was fully damaged by fire. The fire had also spread to the ground and to cabling of another inverter. Crews used one CO2 extinguisher, electrical gloves and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. The incident was later recorded as closed. The cause was not reported.

  1. Solar inverter fires can spread to adjacent cabling before crews arrive, so operators should check clearances and install fire breaks between units.
  2. Thermal imaging confirms full extinguishment of inverter fires after initial attack with CO2, so crews should carry cameras as standard kit.
