If something on the register is wrong, tell us. This page explains how, what we do, and how quickly.
1. How to report an error
Email editorial@energyincidentregister.com with:
- The record reference (for example EIR-0012) or the page address.
- What is wrong.
- What you believe is correct, with a source if you have one (a report, filing, statement, or a document you can share).
- Whether you are connected to the incident (operator, owner, supplier, responder, witness, or none). This helps us weigh the evidence. It does not decide the outcome.
2. What happens next
- We acknowledge within 2 working days.
- We check the claim against the sources we hold and any you provide.
- We decide within 10 working days, or tell you why we need longer.
- If the record is wrong, we correct it and add the correction to the log below.
- If we do not agree the record is wrong, we tell you why and what evidence would change our view. You can ask for the request to be looked at again with any new evidence, and it will be.
3. Requests to remove an entry
The register exists so the industry can learn. We remove entries only where they are shown to be false, where they breach the law, or where publication would cause a clear risk to safety or to an individual. Being an operator, owner or supplier named in a verified public record is not by itself a reason for removal. Anonymised entries do not identify anyone and are not removed on request from a party who believes they can identify themselves in one, though we will review the anonymisation.
4. Right of reply
A party named in a verified record may supply a short statement (up to 150 words) which we will attach to the record, clearly marked, if it adds material information.
5. Corrections log
10 September 2026. Four entries were corrected against primary sources after a check of the named companies on landmark incidents.
- EIR-0009: the September 2022 Megapack fire was at PG&E's Elkhorn Battery Energy Storage System, not the neighbouring Vistra facility. The operator, the cause statement and the record were corrected from PG&E's published findings. An unsupported return-to-service figure was removed.
- EIR-0011: eight firefighters and one police officer were taken to hospital and four firefighters were seriously injured, per the UL FSRI report; the entry had blurred the two. The cell supplier is now named as the sources name it, and the entry records that the supplier publicly disputed the root cause given in the report the operator commissioned.
- EIR-0012: the fire was not brought under control for three days, not six hours, and the site holds 212 units, per Energy Safe Victoria's statement of technical findings.
- EIR-0013: the EPA settlement was with LS Power, the owner, and nearly 15,000 batteries were involved, not several thousand.
No other corrections have been recorded since this page was created on 6 September 2026. Corrections are applied by a reviewed list with a source for every change, and the previous text is kept.
