Transformer fires and cable fault cause outages in Noida

A fire broke out in a transformer in Noida. A cable was damaged by overheating in Noida, and a transformer in Noida caught fire after an oil leak. Power officials disconnected the transformer, but outages continued the next day. Cuts of half an hour to more than four hours were reported in several Noida sectors, and in parts of Ghaziabad. Water supply was also affected in some places. An official said rising temperatures and higher demand had increased the load on substations, and that supply itself was not short.

The report links the faults to overheating, an oil leak, overload and higher demand in hot weather. Residents said they had warned of frequent cuts for more than a week.
