What happened
A fire broke out at a Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) substation in Sector 148, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on the morning of 19 August 2020, starting around 8.30am. Transformers at the substation were reported damaged in the blaze. Fire tenders were dispatched and firefighting operations were underway to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported. The fire caused blackouts in areas near Sector 148, and the substation reportedly supplies electricity to the Noida Metro. The cause of the fire had not been established at the time of reporting, and further details were awaited.
