What happened
On the evening of 6 November 2026, according to RomaToday, a fire destroyed an electrical cabin (cabina elettrica) on Via Città di Castello in the Fleming district of Rome. The fire broke out at around 21:00, causing a sudden loss of power and leaving several residential buildings in the area without electricity. The fire brigade (vigili del fuoco) attended to extinguish the flames and make the structure safe, while 118 medical staff and the police handled traffic management and inspections.
The source reports that no one was injured or affected by smoke inhalation. Technicians from Areti arrived on site and activated emergency generators to restore supply and limit prolonged disruption to residents.
Contributing factors
Not reported. The source does not state the cause of the fire.
Lessons learned
- Fires at electrical cabins can cut power to several buildings at once, so distribution operators should have emergency generator connections ready for rapid deployment.
- Fire brigades attending such fires need early confirmation of isolation and make-safe steps from the network operator.
- Operators should keep clear procedures for traffic control and resident communication when a local supply is lost.
