What happened
At about 13:30 on 28 May 2026, a fire broke out in a photovoltaic (solar) array on the roof of a warehouse in the industrial zone of Termoli, Molise, Italy. Firefighters from the Campobasso command, with a crew from the Termoli detachment, attended the site. The fire was extinguished within a short time. Crews then continued to check the part of the array not affected by the fire, to rule out any further hotspots and to confirm that the roof structure beneath had not been involved.
The report does not give the cause of the fire, the size of the array, the make of the equipment, the owner or operator of the warehouse, or whether any injuries or evacuation occurred. No damage beyond the affected section of the array is described in the source.
Contributing factors
Not reported in the source. The cause of the fire is not stated.
Lessons learned
- After a rooftop PV fire, check the undamaged strings and modules for hotspots and confirm the roof structure below is not involved before standing down.
- Fire crews attending PV roof fires should plan for isolation of the array, because DC circuits can remain energised while there is light.
- Owners of commercial rooftop arrays should keep records of thermal inspections, connector checks and isolator maintenance so that the cause of any fire can be established quickly.
