What happened
A fire broke out at an electrical cabin on Via Fontana in Capriati a Volturno, Caserta province, Italy, at about 3am during the night of 29 to 30 October 2026. Residents saw the flames and alerted the emergency number 115. A crew from the Piedimonte Matese fire station attended the scene, together with technicians from the electricity supply company, who worked to restore service. The fire caused a blackout, which was restored early the following morning. The report does not state the cause of the fire, the extent of damage to the equipment, the number of customers affected, whether anyone was injured, or whether any people were evacuated.
Contributing factors
The report does not state the cause of the fire. It does not say what equipment inside the cabin was affected.
Lessons learned
- Residents who see a fire at an electrical installation should call the emergency number at once, so that the fire service can be alerted.
- Operators of distribution cabins should have fire detection and monitoring that alerts them to overheating or smoke before flames are visible.
- Utilities should plan restoration crews and temporary supply routes so that a fire at a single cabin does not leave a community without power for longer than necessary.
