At about 9:50 am on 28 October 2026, roughly 10,000 homes were left without power in western Yokkaichi, parts of Komono and parts of Suzuka in Mie Prefecture. According to Chubu Electric Power Grid, based in Nagoya, the outage was caused by a work error during equipment replacement work at a substation. Power was fully restored after about five minutes. The source, published by Chunichi Shimbun, does not name the substation, the contractor or the specific error made during the work.

A work error during substation equipment replacement works. The source gives no further detail on how the error occurred.

  1. Switching and isolation steps during substation equipment replacement should be checked independently before work begins and before power is restored.
  2. Live-work plans should record the exact sequence of isolation, earthing and reconnection so that a single error does not interrupt supply to a large number of customers.
  3. Fast restoration procedures, such as those that restored supply here in about five minutes, reduce customer impact when a work error does occur.
