Explosion at Lytkarino substation cuts power to settlements

Nov 2023Published 2 Oct 2026

An explosion and a small fire were reported at a local electric substation in Lytkarino, near Moscow, on the night of 22-23 November 2023. Residents reported a bright flash at about 01:00, after which power was lost across the district. Early reports said more than 10 settlements in Moscow Oblast were cut off. The cause, any injuries and the extent of damage have not been reported.

The cause has not been reported. The account relies on early reports from local residents, relayed by Russian Telegram channels.

  1. A fault at one substation can interrupt supply to many settlements at once, so isolation and restoration plans should be ready before the cause is known.
  2. Early reports of a flash and fire should be treated as unconfirmed until the operator or the emergency services publish what happened.
  3. Night-time outages need a prompt public update on which areas are affected and when supply is expected back.
