Fire at Kloofsig substation disrupts power supply

A fire at Kloofsig substation in the early hours of Wednesday affected power supply to Kloofsig and Lyttelton. The City of Tshwane said technicians had made significant progress overnight on restoration. Rain delayed the work. Installation of switch gear and cable termination had been completed, with testing to follow cable identification at Barnard Park substation. Equipment had been delivered and cable termination had started there. Identification of feeder cables from Lyttelton and Die Hoewes had begun, to be followed by joining those cables to Barnard Park substation. An indication of when power would be restored was expected on Thursday afternoon. The cause of the fire was not reported.
