Fire damages Siemens Gamesa turbine at French Farm wind farm

A Siemens Gamesa G80-2.0 wind turbine at the French Farm project in Cambridgeshire caught fire on the evening of 24 April 2022. The nacelle and blades were affected. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service initially attended, followed by Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service. No firefighting action was taken and the fire burned out. Power to and from the turbines was switched off and a precautionary exclusion zone was established. The project consists of two turbines and was commissioned in 2016. RES manages the site on behalf of REG Windpower. Siemens Gamesa is not responsible for servicing the turbine. The cause is believed to be accidental and an investigation is under way.
