What happened
In 2026, a turbine at Ørsted's Greater Changhua 4 offshore wind farm off Taiwan automatically tripped after its monitoring system detected an abnormal condition. The site team subsequently observed a fire on the turbine, which was extinguished a short time later. No personnel were injured. The turbine was shut down and isolated and a safety exclusion zone was established around it as a precaution, while the rest of the wind farm continued to operate normally. Ørsted, the operator and owner of the site, notified the relevant authorities and stakeholders and said it would investigate the cause with the turbine manufacturer, Siemens Gamesa, with an investigation plan and a repair plan prepared. The root cause remained under investigation at the time of reporting.
