Transformer explosion causes outage in Kelowna neighbourhood

A transformer blew at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday near Tamarack Drive in South Rutland, Kelowna. The explosion sent fire into the grass below the power line. Power was lost to more than 1,000 homes and businesses. The Kelowna Fire Department doused the area with water after residents helped to limit the spread. FortisBC said crews were investigating the cause and estimated that power could be restored by 12:30 a.m. Saturday, once it was safe to do so.
