Wolfe Island turbine loses blade in high winds

What happened

On 16 March 2026, high winds were reported to have ripped a blade from one turbine at the Wolfe Island Wind Farm in Ontario, Canada. The blade fell near the base of the tower. The nose cone also came off and was reported to have landed about 100 metres away. TransAlta, the owner, said the site was taken offline at once and the surrounding area secured, so that all 86 turbines were idled. No injuries were reported. An investigation and technical assessment were under way, and the cause had not been confirmed.
