Turbine hub and blades detach and fall at Erie Shores Wind Farm, Ontario

At approximately 5:03pm on a Saturday evening, the hub of a wind turbine at the 99MW Erie Shores Wind Farm in Ontario detached from the tower and fell to the ground with all three blades still attached. The site, owned and operated by Capstone Infrastructure, comprises 66 turbines supplied by GE Vernova. The operator confirmed that no employees or members of the public were injured and that surrounding landowners, neighbours and their properties were safe. As a precaution, the entire wind farm was taken offline while an investigation began into the cause of the failure. The operator stated it was engaging relevant parties and would provide further information as it became available. At the time of reporting, no cause had been determined for how the hub detached from the tower.
