On 4 January 2025 a fire broke out at an energy storage system (ESS) co-located with a solar facility in Anjwa Township, Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, South Korea. The battery equipment was manufactured by LG Chem, and the system was integrated by KCH group. The fire destroyed one battery pack. Sixteen fire personnel and nine vehicles were deployed and extinguished the blaze within 44 minutes of the report being received. Fire authorities estimated property damage at around 25 million Korean won. No injuries were reported in the source article. Fire and police investigators said the fire was believed to have been caused by a chemical factor within the battery system, and were continuing to investigate the exact cause.
