Lessons learned
- Transformers need scheduled inspection of connections, insulation, oil levels and thermal condition to find faults before they cause fire.
- Maintain clear access and safe separation distances around transformers so that members of the public and workers can be kept away from a fire.
- Once the cause is established, share the findings with other operators so that similar equipment can be checked.
