Smoke was reported at Istiqlal Mosque on Jalan Taman Wijaya Kusuma in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta, on the evening of 18 February 2026, during the first congregational tarawih prayers of Ramadan 1447. Fire service officers said the smoke came from a fire in an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in the mosque's server room. A fire officer at the scene said the UPS battery appeared to have burned, and that melted material from a panel above it had been seen.

Reports give different times for the call: the smoke report is logged at about 20.13 local time and another report gives 20.40. Nine fire appliances and 36 personnel were sent. Crews used fire extinguishers to put out the remaining flames, which were about half a metre high, wore breathing apparatus because of dense smoke, and extracted the smoke with equipment. Officials said the fire stayed within the server room and did not spread, and declared the site safe. No injuries were reported and evening prayers continued. The detailed cause had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.

The cause has not been confirmed. The fire officer said the battery appeared to have burned, with melted material from a panel above it. No information on the sequence of events was available at the time of reporting.

  1. Monitor UPS battery rooms and server rooms for heat and smoke, with detection that alerts staff before a fire develops.
  2. Inspect panels and connections above or near UPS batteries for heat damage, since melted panel material was reported at this site.
  3. Make sure fire responders know where UPS batteries are located and how the room can be isolated and ventilated, because dense smoke made entry difficult here.
