What happened
A fire broke out at a solar panel installation located next to a farmhouse in the municipality of La Serratella, in the province of Castellon, Spain, reported on 10 October 2026. The Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos de Castellon reported that two fire crews were sent to the scene. Two units of the Generalitat Valenciana's forest firefighters were also mobilised as a precaution because of the risk that flames could spread to nearby vegetation.
At the time of reporting, no injuries, specific material damage or burned area had been reported. The cause of the fire and whether it reached the farmhouse had not been established. The source said the forest deployment reflected a possible risk to the surrounding natural environment and did not confirm that flames had reached forest land.
Contributing factors
The cause of the fire had not been determined at the time of reporting.
Lessons learned
- Solar installations close to buildings or vegetation benefit from documented fire-break clearances and vegetation management, which can be checked once an incident occurs.
- Emergency responders attending solar fires should plan for possible spread to adjacent land and buildings, including the need for forest fire support.
- Operators should establish the cause of any solar installation fire as soon as practicable so that preventive measures can be applied across comparable sites.
