On the morning of 12 April 2022, a fire broke out in the Judiciary Data Center Room on the ground floor of the Supreme Court along Padre Faura Street in Manila. A court spokesperson said he had been told that an uninterruptible power supply in the data centre caught fire. The fire service had not yet released a cause.
Contributing factors
The cause has not been reported. The Bureau of Fire Protection said it was investigating.
Lessons learned
- Treat an early report of which component failed as provisional until the fire service confirms it.
- A UPS in a data centre should sit in a space where detection and suppression can limit an electrical fire.
- Prompt alarm and fire service attendance can keep a small data centre fire from spreading.
