Power outage disrupts Nissan services from Denver data centre

Aug 2019Published 2 Oct 2026

A power outage at a data centre in Denver interrupted online services for Nissan North America dealers across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Systems for ordering vehicles and parts, handling recalls and processing warranty claims were affected. Power was restored quickly but business applications remained unavailable for several days. Production was also disrupted. Nissan stated that customer data was not compromised and offered to waive late payment penalties for affected users. Some dealers continued operations using manual processes.

  1. Ensure data centre power systems have adequate redundancy and tested failover.
  2. Maintain clear communication plans for extended application outages.
  3. Prepare manual fallback procedures for critical business functions.
