Fire damages equipment at Barguna REB substation

What happened

A fire broke out around 10:30pm at the 33/11kV grid substation in the Khejurtala area under Gaurichanna union, Barguna Sadar upazila. An 11kV automatic circuit recloser exploded, and several wires and electrical components were damaged. About 67,000 consumers in 10 unions remained without electricity into the following day. Engineers and technical staff from the Rural Electrification Board inspected the site and began repairs. A replacement component had to be brought from Patuakhali, and supply had not been restored by midday. Officials suspect an internal technical fault, with the exact cause still under investigation, and hoped to restore supply by 5:00pm.
