Substation fire causes outage for thousands in Davis County

What happened

A fire at a substation near Legacy Parkway and Parrish Lane in Centerville knocked out power to more than 8,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers in south Davis County. Residents in Centerville, Woods Cross, West Bountiful and surrounding areas were affected, and the fire also affected a nearby substation. Early reports described an explosion and an associated fire. Power was restored on Monday morning, with outages lasting through late Monday morning. The cause remains under investigation. The outage led to normal flare-off operations at local refineries, and thick smoke was seen from across the valley.
