Circuit breaker failure sparks substation fire in downtown Salt Lake City

In the early hours of a Sunday morning, a fire broke out at an electrical substation in downtown Salt Lake City. A dispatch call reporting smoke from the substation was made at around 4:29am. Fire crews responded and the incident was quickly upgraded to a two-alarm fire, prompting additional crews to be called in. Officials said the fire started when a large circuit breaker broke, setting nearby pallets alight. Flames vented through the roof of the structure, causing what a fire official described as minimal damage to the building itself. The extent of damage to equipment inside the substation was not known at the time of reporting. Authorities said the fire was not considered a suspicious act. No injuries were reported.
