A substation at Menlyn Park shopping centre, in the Tshwane area of South Africa, caught fire early on a Sunday morning, disrupting power to a section of the centre. The centre said electricity was restored after one of the substations caught fire and that trading returned to normal. The Tshwane Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze quickly, and electricians attended to the problem. A spokesperson for Tshwane emergency services said a plastic, artificial carpet in the basement had caught fire. The reporting does not make clear how, or whether, the carpet fire and the substation fire were connected. No injuries were reported.
