What happened
A wind turbine caught fire at Butterwick Wind Farm near Sedgefield. Witnesses said smoke and flames could be seen on the turbine blades. The incident is believed to have happened around 6pm on a Thursday evening. Fire crews from Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee attended, and a flexi duty officer informed Northern PowerGrid. EDF Energy, described as the supplier, was dealing with the incident. The cause was not known and no one was injured. The extent of damage was not reported.
