Vegetation fire at mini substation damages transformer in Dalview
EIR-0815A mini substation on the corner of Craigholm and Paul Kruger streets in Dalview, Brakpan, caught fire at around 4pm after long grass and weeds in the vicinity ignited, according to a local ward councillor quoted by the Brakpan Herald. An inspection confirmed that one of the transformers at the site was damaged and required repair. City of Ekurhuleni officials attempted overnight to connect all affected houses to the transformer that remained functional, but it could not handle the load. Load shedding was therefore applied to parts of Dalview until the damaged transformer could be repaired. No restoration time was given at the time of reporting and no injuries were mentioned.
The councillor attributed the fire to long grass and weeds growing close to the substation equipment. No official utility investigation findings were reported.
