What happened

Shortly before 7pm on 27 August 2025, a loud bang was heard in the historic centre of Alghero, Sardinia, when an electrical substation on Via Machin exploded, sending a thick column of smoke into the surrounding streets. Firefighters attended the scene to secure the area and no injuries were reported. The explosion caused a power outage affecting several streets in the city centre, leaving residents and businesses without electricity while repair work was carried out to restore supply.
