Underground transformer explosion at Conti and Bourbon Streets, New Orleans
EIR-0238An underground electrical transformer exploded at the corner of Conti and Bourbon Streets in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, during a public holiday weekend, causing flames to erupt through the roadway surface. The explosion knocked out power to approximately 900 customers and prompted police to evacuate several blocks, including a hotel, as a precaution. Fire crews worked to control the flames while crews from Entergy New Orleans, the operator and owner of the transformer vault, attempted to restore power.
