What happened
A fire broke out on 5 June in a wooden shed at a single-family home in Bentwisch, near Rostock, Germany. A battery energy storage system installed at the property had overheated before fire crews arrived. While firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze, the battery exploded, blowing the roof off the shed and causing the structure to collapse. Flying debris from the explosion damaged two neighbouring properties. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries during the incident. The public prosecutor's office has appointed a fire investigator and police have opened an investigation into the cause of the fire and subsequent explosion.
