What happened
A fire broke out in the transformer room of a substation on Kleistweg in Offenburg, Germany, according to the local fire service. Parts of the Oststadt district were briefly without electricity. Nobody was hurt. The report, published by the regional news site ms-aktuell.de, does not say how the fire started, how long the outage lasted, how many customers were affected, or which company operates the equipment. The article uses a stock photograph of a fire service operation, which does not show the Offenburg site. No further details were available in the source at the time of publication.

Lessons learned
- Inspect transformer rooms regularly for overheating, insulation deterioration and oil or cable faults, since these are common precursors to fire.
- Keep fire detection, isolation procedures and emergency contact arrangements current so that equipment can be de-energised quickly and safely.
- Design network switching so that a fault at one substation can be bypassed, limiting the number of customers who lose supply.
