Fire at Cleary Avenue substation in Metairie leaves thousands without power

On 29 June 2018, a fire occurred in a piece of equipment at the Cleary Avenue substation in Metairie. Crews responded just before 5 p.m. Adjacent equipment was de-energised so the fire could be extinguished safely, and the fire was under control by 5 p.m. Entergy reported 10,506 residences and businesses without power in the area. The exact location and cause were not immediately available. Power was expected to be restored around 7:30 p.m.
