What happened
A fire broke out on the afternoon of Friday 6 November 2026 at a home in the San Antonio residential development in Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. The fire damaged three solar panels and a power converter (inverter). The source estimates material losses at about 60,000 Mexican pesos. Municipal police and the fire department attended and found the panels and converter burning. Firefighters extinguished the fire, then inspected the area to rule out risks and prevent the fire restarting. The source does not mention any injuries. The fire department urged residents to take extra precautions and to maintain their electrical installations and equipment properly to prevent accidents.
Contributing factors
The source does not state a cause of the fire. It does not describe the age, mounting or maintenance history of the solar equipment.
Lessons learned
- Solar installations on homes should be inspected periodically, including DC cabling, connectors and inverters, for signs of overheating, arcing or damage.
- Fire services attending solar fires should inspect the area after extinguishing to rule out reignition, since panels and electrical components can remain hazardous.
- Homeowners and installers should follow a maintenance schedule for PV systems and ensure installations are carried out by qualified personnel.
