Wind turbine fire at La Rumorosa wind farm, Baja California, Mexico

What happened

A wind turbine at the La Rumorosa wind farm in Tecate municipality, Baja California, Mexico, was reported on fire on Tuesday 13 October 2026. Local media reported that the emergency became known that morning. The turbine is reported to belong to the Government of Baja California. Images circulated on social media showed smoke and flames from the upper part of the structure. The local ejido fire brigade was mobilised and coordinated efforts to contain the fire and prevent it spreading to other parts of the structure and to the surrounding area, where several turbines stand relatively close together.
