Lessons learned
- Utilities should give clear, timely public updates when a substation or transformer fire affects neighbouring businesses, so that site operators can plan evacuation and reopening.
- Site operators should confirm with the utility the status and expected restoration time of any power supply serving the building before reopening.
- Transformer fire investigations should be published once the cause is known, so that other operators can check similar equipment.
More lessons on emergency response and public communication, outages, backup supply and restoration, investigation and fleet-wide checks, from every incident on the register.
