Lessons learned
- Wind turbine fires at remote sites can require several agencies at once, so operators should agree multi-agency response arrangements with local fire, police and environmental authorities in advance.
- Remote or high-altitude sites can be slow to reach, so operators should plan access routes and on-site fire response measures.
- Automatic fire detection and alarm reporting within the nacelle and tower is good practice, as it can help emergency services respond sooner.
