Police said a transformer box on a footpath outside an Amazon office in Bengaluru exploded on a Wednesday. The blast was reported outside Gate No. 3 near Bagalur Cross, under Yelahanka Old Town police station limits. A pedestrian on the footpath was injured and was being treated in hospital; his condition was described as safe. A person walking immediately behind him was not hurt. Dashcam footage was reported to have shown commuters passing as the transformer exploded. Police were investigating the cause.

The cause was not reported. Police said they were investigating the blast.

  1. Transformer boxes on footpaths can injure people walking past if they fail, so enclosure integrity and separation from the walking route matter.
  2. Where the cause is still under investigation, similar roadside equipment should not be assumed safe until the failure is understood.
  3. Nearby video can help reconstruct who was exposed, but it does not by itself establish why the equipment failed.
