Four people suffered severe burn injuries after a high-capacity electricity transformer exploded near a Coca-Cola warehouse in Benniganahalli, Bengaluru, on the afternoon of 6 October 2026. The incident was reported to have occurred between 12.30 pm and 1 pm and to have caused panic in the area. The blast was reportedly powerful enough to destroy a two-wheeler parked close to the transformer. Residents alleged that a technical problem had been reported the previous day and that they had been assured repairs would be carried out before the explosion. Police registered a case. The report did not give an established cause.

Police said a heavy power load was the preliminary suspected reason. Residents claimed a technical fault had been reported the day before and that repair work had not been completed before the explosion. The exact cause was not reported as established.

  1. Act on reported faults at distribution transformers before leaving the equipment in service.
  2. Treat a suspected overload as a reason to check loading and take the asset out of service until it is safe.
  3. Keep nearby residents informed when a reported fault has not yet been repaired.
