At about 1.30pm on Thursday 19 July 2018, a man was injured in an industrial accident on a wind farm at Mountainlodge, Cootehill, County Cavan, Ireland. It is understood he was operating a teleporter at the time. A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Authority said he suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Tallaght hospital, where he was receiving treatment. Emergency services and An Garda Siochana went to the scene. The authority was informed and an investigation was under way. The report does not say how the accident happened, what work was being done, or whether the wind farm was being built or in operation.

  1. How this accident happened has not been reported, so other operators should not treat any one machine or task as the cause.
  2. Wind farm sites should plan how an injured person will be reached, including access for an air ambulance where road access may be slow.
  3. Findings from the safety authority investigation, once published, should be shared with other wind farm operators and contractors.
