A transformer in Rabupura town, in the Dankaur Kotwali area of Greater Noida, was destroyed by fire on 24 March 2022. An electricity department employee said a short circuit started the fire, after which smoke and flames engulfed the unit. Fire services brought the blaze under control after about two hours, but the transformer was burnt out. The incident left 42 villages supplied from the affected transformer without electricity for several hours while restoration was arranged.

An electricity department employee attributed the fire to a short circuit. No independent confirmation of the cause was reported.

  1. Investigate reported short circuits promptly and record findings so operators can judge whether similar transformers need inspection.
  2. Keep fire response arrangements ready for transformer fires that can take hours to control.
  3. Plan alternative supply routes so a single transformer failure does not leave many villages without power for hours.
