Transformer fire at Air Liquide plant in Harris County

Aug 2024Published 3 Oct 2026

On 18 August 2024, authorities responded to a transformer fire at the Air Liquide plant in the 11700 block of Bay Area Blvd, in southeast Harris County, Texas. The road was closed from Fairmont Parkway to Choate Road. By 6:40 p.m., the La Porte Office of Emergency Management said the fire was mostly out and responders were suppressing remaining hot spots. At 7:11 p.m., Air Liquide said the fire had been extinguished. Because of the loss of power, residents might notice increased flaring at other facilities. Air monitoring was being conducted; the source does not report the results.

  1. A transformer fire at an industrial site can cut power and lead nearby facilities to flare, so operators should plan for effects beyond the site fence.
  2. Tell the public what is known about air monitoring and do not imply a clear result before one is reported.
  3. Keep road closures and an emergency presence in place until hot spots are suppressed and the incident is over.
