Substation damage in occupied Crimea causes outages

What happened
A substation at Nizhnohirskyi village in occupied Crimea was reported to have been attacked. The 110/35/10 kV facility, which has transformers with a combined rating of 50 MVA, supplies the Nizhnohirskyi district. Outages were reported in part of the village, in the Krasnohvardiiskyi (Kurman) district, in several villages in Pervomaiskyi district, and in Chornomorske. In Armyansk, electricity and water supplies were reported to have stopped. Krymenergo, the power company under the occupation authorities, acknowledged that a power facility had been attacked.
Contributing factors
Reports attribute the damage to an attack on the substation. No further technical cause is stated.

- Grid operators should keep contingency plans for isolating a damaged substation so that outages do not spread further than necessary.
- Where water supply depends on continuous electricity, pumping sites need a backup supply.
