Transformer explosion causes outages in Hartford

An exterior transformer failed and exploded on Charter Oak Avenue in Hartford, causing a fire. Fire crews responded to the 100 block of Wyllys Street and controlled the incident. The event led to approximately 1,250 initial power outages, reduced to 230 within hours, with around 500 customers affected. Power was restored to most customers within an hour. One person near the site was taken to hospital for evaluation of possible hearing issues. Eversource secured the transformer and is investigating the malfunction with the Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
