Transformer explosion at Sector 52 causes outages in Gurugram

June 2024Published 1 Oct 2026

Companies named in this entry: Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam

A transformer explosion at the Sector 52 power house in Gurugram on 1 June 2024, reported at about 9 am, cut power in several parts of the city. Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam said Sector 45, Sector 52, Ardee City and Wazirabad were worst hit. The utility sent teams to the site, shifted load to adjoining feeders and substations, and restored supply in some areas that way. It said tests to find the cause were under way, with results expected the next day. A residents' association in Sector 45 said some homes there were without electricity for more than eight hours.

The cause was not reported. The operator said tests were still being carried out.

  1. A plan to move load onto adjoining feeders and substations can restore some supply while a failed transformer is investigated.
  2. Until test results are available, operators should not treat the cause as known.
  3. Outage duration should be recorded by area, because impact can differ between neighbouring sectors.
