What happened
On 3 September 2021, Recharge reported a blade failure that damaged a 5.3MW GE Vernova onshore turbine at Björkvattnet in northern Sweden. The manufacturer was analysing the root cause. Injuries, the extent of damage beyond the blade, and whether the turbine was in operation were not reported.
Lessons learned
- A blade failure on a large onshore turbine can damage the machine and should prompt a manufacturer root-cause review before similar units return to service.
