What happened
A fire was reported in a wind turbine in Bjälbo outside Mjölby. The alarm was received at 11.20. Rescue services said callers could see fire at the top of the turbine and that it was about 50 metres up in the machine room. Crews kept a safety distance in case objects fell. At 11.49 the rescue service reported that the rotor blades had detached and fallen to the ground. A 100-metre exclusion zone was set up and road 947 was closed past the site.
An officer said crews were unlikely to climb up and extinguish the fire with water, and expected it to burn out while they dealt with any fire that reached the ground. Whether the fire later went out, and whether anyone was hurt, was not reported.
