Fire at Subestación América interrupts service in Daule and Santa Lucía

A fire was reported at about 07:00 on 22 September 2026 in the perimeter of Subestación América, in the canton of Daule, Guayas, Ecuador. The Corporación Nacional de Electricidad (CNEL EP), through its Unidad de Negocio Guayas Los Ríos, confirmed the incident. CNEL said the incident affected voltage regulators and interrupted electricity supply in some localities in the cantons of Daule and Santa Lucía. The fire was under control. Technical staff were assessing the affected equipment to determine the extent of the damage and the steps needed to restore supply. The company had not yet said when service would return.
