Explosion and fire at Xi'an grid substation disrupts nearby factories

A substation in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, owned and operated by State Grid Corporation of China, suffered a breakdown at around 00:25 on 18 June 2016 that caused an explosion and an immediate fire. The fire was extinguished in about one hour. The source reports that the explosion damaged several local semiconductor manufacturing plants and that the sudden blackout affected semiconductor makers including Samsung, Micron and Powertech Technology. Solar manufacturer LONGi and its subsidiary Lerri Solar, both based in Xi'an, were reported to be unaffected because their plants were a long way from the explosion location. Injuries and casualties were not reported in the source.
