Fire destroys storage godown at NTPC solar plant construction site in Dahod

EIR-0506

Provisional entry. Published from first reports and rechecked automatically as more sources appear. No further update is scheduled; the entry stays provisional until new information is published.

A fire broke out around 9:30 pm at a godown storing construction materials for NTPC's under-construction 70 MW solar plant in Bhatiwada village, Dahod district, Gujarat. The blaze caused extensive damage, with nearly the entire godown burnt down. Around seven to eight employees and four security guards present at the site were rescued safely and there were no casualties. Fire tenders from Dahod and neighbouring Godhra, Jhalod and Chhota Udepur were dispatched to fight the blaze, which continued overnight due to strong winds hampering firefighting efforts. The fire was reported almost under control by the following morning.

Strong winds were reported to have hampered firefighting efforts, according to a fire officer quoted in the report. The cause of the fire itself was not stated in the source.

  1. Construction site storage facilities holding materials for energy projects should have adequate fire suppression and early detection systems given the fire load involved.
  2. Emergency evacuation procedures for on-site personnel and security staff should be tested regularly during construction phases.
  3. Coordination with regional fire services should be established early in construction projects, particularly at remote sites where response times and resource availability may be limited.
