Transformer explosions and fire cut power to Arta villages, Greece
EIR-0188Several villages in the Arta region of western Greece lost electricity for several hours after powerful successive explosions occurred in a transformer at the Grammenitsa Extra High Voltage Center, operated by power utility PPC. The explosions, which happened shortly before midnight, triggered two small fires within the substation. The fire then spread to nearby grassland and forested areas. Fire crews attending the scene had to work around downed live power cables, which created a risk of electrocution during firefighting operations. Settlements in the mountainous part of the prefecture and in the Kambos area were affected by the outage. Power was fully restored to all affected villages by mid-morning, according to state broadcaster ERT.
